Who inspires you professionally or personally? And why?

Brene Brown is one person who continues to inspire me to be my authentic self and to embrace imperfection. Her stories about the human experience are so honest and relatable, it’s impossible to not feel inspired after listening to one of her talks. Another person I greatly admire is Dolly Parton. Not only is she a phenomenal songwriter and performer, but she’s a committed activist whose devotion to community work empowers me to do my part to bring people together.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love collecting art, especially from local artists. I also enjoy listening to live music and camping. Sitting around a fire on a crisp autumn night makes my heart full. Throw in some karaoke and you have the perfect evening!

What is your most treasured accomplishment?

Raising four fantastic human beings is my most treasured accomplishment. I adore the relationship I have with each of my boys, who are 23, 21, 19, and 16 now. Although being a single mom to four boys was not always easy, I have tried to build a close relationship with each of them based on love, respect, honesty, and laughter. We have so much fun together and I’m beyond proud of each of them.

What do you do to treat yourself?

Food is my happy place. Once a week my husband and I treat ourselves to frozen custard from Shake’s. It’s the best!

What is one thing you cannot do without?

I absolutely cannot do without my sleep routine. Nothing beats cozying up with my big comforter and getting a solid 8 hours of sleep.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and while many times the focus is on yummy food, it is also a great reminder about giving thanks for blessings in our lives. Research shows that spending time in gratitude will positively affect your mental health which can in turn be a huge benefit for your physical health.

Gratitude involves being very intentional about noticing things around us with a positive attitude. Try noticing some things around you this week. Here are a few ideas:

  • Something that smells good

  • A snack you like

  • A place you enjoy

  • An activity you enjoy doing outside

  • A beautiful thing in nature you are grateful for

Don’t forget to also involve the children in your life in practices of gratitude. One way to do this is start a gratitude jar where each child adds in something they are grateful for each day. On particularly tough days, pull one thing out as a reminder of your blessings!

Our Be Well Care Well program can help give you tools for strengthening gratitude practices and supporting well-being. Reach out to us at info@bewellcarewell.com for ways to get connected or info@curriculaconcepts.com for more information about other training opportunities.
