Introducing Emma Webster, Program Manager at West Woods HS/EHS/ABC. Read more about her below!

How many years have you worked with children?

30 years in April

What brought you to work with children? Have you always wanted to or did it just happen?

When my son went to Head Start many years ago, I volunteered two days in a row and was put in the classroom as a sub. In six months, Fact Inc. put me as lead teacher in a classroom and paid for me to go back to school. I received the Head Start Teacher of the Year in 2008, and in 2012, I received the National Head Start of the Year. When I was 16, I used to gather small kids in the neighborhood to take home to teach, play with, comb their hair, and sing to them. Working with small children has always been my passion and to God Be The Glory!

What are some of your hobbies?

My hobbies are baking, spending time with my grandkids, doing mission work at the nursing home/doing for others, and watching Hallmark channel.

What is your most treasured accomplishment?

Having a BA degree (Born Again) Christian and personal relation with God!

What is your favorite thing about working with children?
My favorite thing about working with children is that I can clown around with them, laugh and play with them, love on them, be stern with them when needed, and they always show me love.

What has been the most significant or memorable moment in your job?

My most significant or memorable moment on the job is reading a devotional daily with the staff, and listening to and spending one on one time with the parents that need me.

Do you have any dreams or aspirations you want to share?

My dreams or aspiration is to make Jesus proud.

As the holiday season approaches, remember that healthy eating isn't about perfection! Food is more than fuelโ€”it's also a source of comfort, culture, tradition, and connection. Rather than focusing on restrictions or labeling foods as "good" or "bad," embrace balance, variety, and the joy of sharing meals with others.

This season, focus on adding rather than restricting. Include colorful fruits and vegetables, whole grains, or protein-rich foods alongside your holiday favorites. Practice listening to your body's hunger and fullness cues, and remember there's no need to skip meals to "save room" for holiday gatherings. Children also learn from the adults around them! Model a positive relationship with food by avoiding guilt-based language and celebrating the flavors, textures, and traditions that make meals enjoyable.

Dear Preschool Parents,

If getting into a school-year routine has felt harder than you expected, please knowโ€”you are not alone.

As a former preschool parent, I remember the mornings when we couldn't find a shoe, breakfast ended up in the car, and someone suddenly decided they absolutely could not wear pants that day. I remember bedtime taking much longer than planned and wondering if we would ever feel like we had our rhythm together.

The truth is, family routines don't have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Our children find comfort in knowing what comes next. A familiar bedtime story, putting backpacks in the same place, choosing clothes the night before, or having a special goodbye at the classroom door can give children a sense of security and belonging.

But routines are about more than getting everyone out the door.

They are little opportunities for connection.

When we sit together for breakfast, hold a hand on the way to school, listen to a big feeling, or read just one more story, we are reminding our children: "You are safe. You are loved. I am here."

And on the mornings when everything falls apart? Give yourself grace. Tomorrow is another opportunity to try again.

Your child doesn't need a perfect parent or a perfect routine. They need youโ€”showing up, loving them, guiding them, and making those little moments of connection along the way.

From one former preschool parent to another, I see you. I know how tiring this season can be, and I hope you remember that even in the messy, rushed, ordinary moments, you are doing something incredibly important.

You are helping your child feel safe, confident, and loved. And that is more than enough.

With understanding and a whole lot of empathy,

A Former Preschool Parent
