What brought you to work with children?  Have you always wanted to or did it just happen?
I have always loved children, how they learn, grow, and become amazing citizens and human beings. I watched children as a “babysitter” in my teens and decided that that was the profession I was chosen for. When my first child turned one, we began looking for daycares and at that time I did not see anything that I felt met my high standards. As I began researching, I learned that the Air Force had a program so to provide childcare from my home. I have been licensed with the Air Force since April 2001. I began seeking higher Early Childhood Education and received my NAFCC license (National Association for Family Child Care) in October 2005. I worked hard learning, taking all the trainings I could find, and getting ready for this big national inspection! I became the first Air Force Provider to become licensed with NAFCC in Washington State! We then relocated with the military to Little Rock in February 2007 and fell in love with the location and the people and I knew this was our forever home.

What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy being around the children, planning their activities and spending time with their families, and documenting our adventures and learning. I love to photograph the children doing exciting things to share with the families. I enjoy learning about photography and light and how to make it more pleasing and more artistic. I believe that a great photo should show emotion and is timeless! I also love crafting and making something out of nothing! On our nature walks we are always collecting little treasures to turn into something creative.

What has been the most significant or memorable moment in your job/life?
There have absolutely been memorable moments in my career. You can’t beat the first time a child lights up because they have learned the new skill you have been working on for a long time, the new baby that smiles at you for the first time, when toddler that moved away moves back and insists on coming for a visit because they remember the wonderful the experience they had with you, or the school ager who is all grown up and invites you to the wedding! The lasting friendships of the children and the parent with me and my family. When families enroll, I tell them that they are now part of an extended family, with aunts, uncles, and cousins. I feel that my families enjoy the sense of community and can feel the compassion and love. Absolutely one of the best reasons to choose a home provider is the level of care and attention that the children enrolled receive. I am able to tailor my program to fit the individual needs of the children enrolled. I love being able to take my kids on field trips, parks, and adventures just exploring or visiting the zoo when we study bears! I get to help my kids learn new skills, build on the existing ones and prepare for the upcoming! Absolutely the best career!

Thank you for this opportunity to tell you about myself, my program, and my experiences with family child care.
